DAP Sandakan welcome developments that benefit Sandakan but the choice of this site for the Out-Station Bus Terminal is totally unacceptable for the proximity to the number of schools and so do all the dubious reasons given by SMC for doing so. Why on this padang? In fact, there are others more suitable sites available.
All open space must be protected from greedy developers and there are even thought of putting up a 5 stars hotel here! And should SMC insist on going ahead with this, we’ll go to court to challenge it and will organize a “SAVE THE OPEN SPACE” signature campaign to thwart it.
In no uncertain terms, we want SMC to rehabilitate this once proud padang, now abandoned, and it is the right time to do it now as this has make easy access to the playing field from both side via the North Road and Northern Ring Road. Our investigation reviewed the 27 acres of land have been gazatted on 30th October 1969 (Gazatte Notification No. 767/69) as open space or playing field.
During the Sabah Chief Minister visit to KK City Hall’s Board of Advisors on
It is outrageous for YB Au Kam Wah to support the proposed Out-Station Bus terminal in the only padang situated in his constituent. We urged YB Au to review his stand as he should create more padang instead of supporting this project and in this site, in the name of development. We were bemused with his reasoning that because of the availability of other open space it is alright to encroach into this padang. Therefore, we will take it to mean he is no different from those who had vandalized it.
